Social and economic determinants of health have significant direct and indirect impacts on long-term health, influencing health behaviors and affecting access to critical resources and civic participation. Establishing equitable social and economic conditions lays the groundwork for a healthy community. Communities historically marginalized by disinvestment or discrimination face fewer social and economic opportunities, disproportionately affecting people of color and those in rural areas. These factors include income, housing, food security, safety, and social connections. Addressing these inequities fosters equitable health outcomes and builds thriving communities.
