Numerous factors shape our longevity and well-being. Health Factors encompass the elements we can enhance to promote longer and healthier lives, serving as indicators of our communities’ future health.
Individual or community health isn’t dictated by a sole factor but rather by an array of intersecting elements, ranging from environmental factors like air and water quality to social determinants such as housing conditions. These combined factors contribute to overall health outcomes. The four Health Determinants of the Population Health Framework include:
- Social & Economic Determinants: education, employment, income, family and social support and community safety
- Physical Environment Determinants: air and water quality, housing, and transportation
- Health Behavior Determinants: alcohol and drug use, diet and exercise, sexual activity and tobacco use
- Health Care Determinants: health care access and quality
